Mishmi Takins occur mostly in Tibet, but also in other localities of China, as well as India and Myanmar. The numbers decrease. Main threats include hunting and habitat loss by deforestation.

Conservation

■ Takin is listed as Vulnerable in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species since 1996.
■ The species is managed under the EEP (EAZA Ex-situ Programme) since 2021. The programme is coordinated by Auvergne Zoo.
■ Takin is listed in Appendix II of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES, or Washington Convention).
