Red-eyed Tree Frogs are widely distributed throughout most of Central America. Countries of occurrence are Belize, Colombia, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua and Panama.

Red-eyed Tree Frog is generally considered to be an abundant species common throughout its range. Due to ongoing decline in the extent and quality of habitat, the international pet trade and disease, the numbera are is suspected to be decreasing.

Conservation

■ Listed in Appendix II of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES, or Washington Convention).
