Grey Crowned Crane occurs in Angola, Botswana, Burundi, Congo, Eswatini, Kenya, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Rwanda, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zimbabwe. The population is decreasing. The major threats are illegal trade, habitat destruction, pesticides and collisions with power lines.

Conservation

■ Included in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species in 2009, listed as Endangered (EN) since 2012.
■ Listed in Appendix II of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES, or Washington Convention).
