European Elk

European Elk, or Moose, is distributed across Europe, Asia and North America. The numbers are increasing. The threats include habitat destruction and fragmentation caused by forestry and expansion of agriculture. Historically, an uncontrolled hunting was the main factor that caused numbers to decrease.

Conservation

■ Listed in Appendix III of the Bern Convention on the Conservation of European Wildlife and Natural Habitats as a protected fauna species.
