Edwards’s Pheasant is an endemic species of Vietnam. The population is decreasing. The major threats are habitat destruction and poaching. The species’ historical range was largely affected by the fumigation with herbicides (defoliants) during the Vietnam War.

Conservation

■ Listed as Critically Endangered (CR) in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
■ Captive population data are recorded in International Studbook, it is kept by Berlin Zoo.
■ The species is managed under the EEP (EAZA Ex-situ Programme), it is coordinated by Prague Zoo.
■ Listed in Appendix I of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES, or Washington Convention).
