Collared Peccary occurs in southern United States, a large part of Mexico and Central America, as well as northern part of South America including the entire Amazon basin. The population is currently stable. The threats include over-hunting for their meat and hides and excessive destruction of its habitats.

■ Listed in Appendix II of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES, or Washington Convention).
