IUCN Red List: Data Deficient
Turkish Spiny Mouse is found in only one site on the southern coast of Turkey. The current population trend is unknown. The only known locality is subject to a high tourism development.

Turkish Spiny Mouse was included in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species as Critically Endangered in 1996. In 2008 the species was moved to Data Deficient category due to doubts about its true taxonomic status. A. cilicus is thought to be a part of the widely distributed Cairo Spiny Mouse (A. cahirinus) but currently it is still recognized as a valid species.
