IUCN Red List: Endangered
Przewalski’s Wild Horse is extinct in Kazakhstan, Russia and Ukraine. Currently the species occurs in China and is reintroduced in Mongolia. The numbers are increasing. The major threats are livestock farming, mining, poaching, military activities and effects of climate change.
■ Listed as Endangered (EN) in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species.
■ Within EAZA, a Przewalski's Horse EEP (European Endangered Species Programme) was established in 1990. It is coordinated by Cologne Zoo.
■ Captive population data are recorded in International Studbook since 1959.
■ Listed in Appendix I of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES, or Washington Convention).
