Patas Monkeys occur in sub-Saharan Africa. The species is still relatively abundant, although a marked decrease is noted in the southeastern parts of the range. Threats include hunting for food, prosecution as a crop pest, and habitat loss.

■ Listed as Near Threatened (NT) in the IUCN Red List of Threatened Species since 2020.
■ The species is managed under the EEP (EAZA Ex-situ Programme).
■ Listed in Appendix II of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES, or Washington Convention).
