Northern Lynx
Eurasian Lynx is distributed in large parts of Europe. The northern subspecies occurs in Scandinavia, Finland, Belarus, Baltic states, European part of Russia, Ural and Siberia east to the Yenisei River. The numbers are currently stable. Main threats to Lynx in Europe include persecution as well as habitat loss and fragmentation.
Conservation
■ The species is managed under the EEP (EAZA Ex-situ Programme). Currently it is coordinated by Bern Zoo.
■ Eurasian Lynx is listed in Appendix II of Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES, or Washington Convention).
■ Eurasian Lynx is listed in Appendix III of Bern Convention, as a protected fauna species in Europe.
■ Eurasian Lynx is listed in Annexes II and IV of EU Habitats and Species Directive.
■ An especially protected species in Latvia (the Cabinet of Ministers’ Regulations No. 396 on November 14, 2000).
